Philippines is a Step Closer to Joining the ATA Carnet System

On June 23rd, Rodrigo R. Duterte, President of the Philippines, signed the Instrument of Accession for the Customs Convention on the ATA Carnet which would allow the temporary import/export of commercial samples, professional equipment, and articles for presentation at trade fairs, shows, and exhibitions.
According to Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis, Jr., President of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, “the signing is a positive development for exporters.”
The ATA Carnet provides the duty- and tax-free movement of goods across international borders that impact the positive development and growth of trade throughout the world as well as to make projects requiring temporary import/export possible. There are currently 87 countries and territories in the ATA Carnet System and hopefully, in the not too distant future, the Philippines will become a welcome new member.
